The Pirate Bay founder Gottfrid Svartholm has found a new ally – this time in the person of independent American security expert Jacob Appelbaum.
Appelbaum appeared on the second week of the trial against one of The Pirate Bay’s head honchos. The activist and security expert defended the accusations made against Svartholm.
The prosecution lodged a complaint against Appelbaum’s credibility as an expert witness, citing that the American knew the Swede defendant personally.
Appelbaum denied the claim and said that he “only talked a little with Gottfrid.” Later on, the security expert reiterated his case that it is possible for anyone from the outside to control the computer of the accused to carry out the said hacking activity.
The trial continues
Svartholm, also known as “anakata” in the notorious torrent website, has been under trial for two weeks now. The case’s basis is Svartholm’s alleged hacking activity against the mainframes of US-operated IT company CSC.
The trial of the Pirate Bay founder is set to continue in the next few weeks, with hearings scheduled until the end of October.
